I had never really thought about this but I feel this way too, and so books about robots are always so hit or miss with me, and that's absolutely why!! OMG. well said!!!
I... hesitate slightly because I feel like recs for this series have been all over the dang place and so maybe you're avoiding it on purpose, but... Murderbot? Is possibly the queerest robot ever? Explicitly? It refuses to use gendered pronouns and at one point during a configuration change is offered sex-related organs and emphatically turns them down. Technically a cyborg, I suppose.
