Black Sails WIP rec

I have a new icon, and in celebration: a WIP Black Sails fic rec! Under a cut for spoilers.

Magical realist study of the Flint/McGraw personality split, a personal favorite identity confusion of mine. I really like this particular approach, because of how they have to look each other in the eye, and yes, I sure DO want Thomas Hamilton interacting with both Flint and McGraw at once.

Explicit; James McGraw/Thomas Hamilton, Captain Flint/Thomas Hamilton
Additional Tags: let's tackle the mcgraw/flint divide shall we, and how real it is or isn't, also porn, Character Study, Supernatural Elements, Post-Canon, captain flint boils an excellent egg, even james has to admit it
Summary:

A room manifests in their home that was not there before, and with it, the living spectre of James’ past. Thomas begins to wonder if it hasn't been living with them for much longer.

Or, a surreal psychodrama made flesh. Set post-canon.

Here's a snippet that I both laughed at, is v in character, and is kind of demonstrative more generally of what's happening here:

"What are we going to do with him?" James repeated. "He's right, I don't want him just running about, who knows what he's going to burn down."

"England, if I had any say," Flint said lightly. "At the very least I'd like to go back to the Oglethorpe estate and set it on fire like we should have before leaving."

whisperspace GOD I LOVE HIM SO MUCH, I LOVE ALL OF THEM, I have minor panic attacks when I think about how much I love black sails, I desperately want to know any of those characters well enough to write fic for them but they're too slippery and complex for me!!, because of how insanely GOOD it is as a show jfc, also I watched 2x10 while in Charleston and I am going to write about that more elsewhere, but man, was it an experience

Isn’t it just the best? Part of me wants to see how everything will come together, but I’m enjoying watching the plot and characters unfold that I’m not that focused on the eventual ending. It’s such an enjoyable concept that has so much potential (which I’m sure will be fulfilled and then some)

This is on my list to read soon. The personality divide is everything... and oh, the madness and talking to ghosts and the queer family dynamics but yeah I could just live exactly right there.

My first BS fic took two years to get from brain to page exactly bc it was about these things and ahhhh.

That’s what makes SFF interesting to me, too. The world building is fun, but it doesn’t have the same emotional payoff than seeing characters under a new light. And I’m very much invested in the emotional payoff of a story.

The process of seeing this story come together will be very exciting indeed.

I adore Stimulus and have probably reread* it a gazillion times. I love everything AstronautSquid has written. She’s a gift to the Black Sails fandom.

*my rereading problem also applies to fic. I usually need to read a fic at least three times before I’m able to comment on it.
